Painting is my response to the beauty and calm that has come into my life from climbing alpine meadows and paddling uninhabited island inlets. Natural wonders like larch trees in autumn or endless horizons have caused me to pause, reflect, and return to my studio to paint. Moments of being, simple and direct, uncluttered and sacred, inspire me to use the colors and textures of oil paint to make the experience accessible to others. Knowing that things are not as solid, predictable, or seamless as they appear, these paintings hold reminders of how to regain strength when things fall apart. They evoke timeless forests, the scent of clean air, and the delicate strength of a fawn lily. These paintings are a dimension, a way of viewing external thoughts touched with a feather, and have become objects, images, rather than simply vanishing from memory and dissolving back into space.
